Astrid Julen is Swiss and grew up in Bern. She was taking dance classes since the age of four and increased her training load with age. Next to her focus in classical ballet, she was also exploring contemporary dance. Due to a special school program she could manage her big amount of training and accomplish her Matura (general qualification for university entrance).

In 2011 she got accepted at the renowned Ecole-Atelier Rudra Béjart in Lausanne where she got the chance to tour in Europe with the Béjart Ballet Lausanne dancing in “The Rite of Spring” by Maurice Béjart. A highlight was the performance on stage of the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow. After her diploma she honed her dancing skills at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Avila in Madrid. In the Spanish capital she performed various pieces by Nacho Duato and was additionally in several projects in the freelance scene.

In 2015 she got a contract at the ballet of the opera Graz under the direction of Jörg Weinöhl where she danced as a soloist and in groups for three seasons. Amongst other roles she danced as Hermia in “Ein Sommernachtstraum” by Jörg Weinöhl.

Astrid decided then to move to Vienna and work as freelance dancer, completing besides her diploma in digital photography at the LIK Akademie für Foto und Design. She was dancing in projects at Staatstheater Darmstadt and at the Styriarte Festival in Graz.

In 2019 she moved to Berlin and got accepted at Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden for the work-study program Master Dance Teacher with focus in professional education and graduated in 2022. Together with other artists she won 2020 the Premio Vivo d’Arte for a one hour solo performance within the framework of the Romaeuropa Festival in Rome.

Since 2021 Astrid lives in Switzerland and works as a freelance dancer and teacher.
